December Newsletter
Dear colleagues, friends and family,As we approach the shortest day of the year, I thought I’d share some news with you before wrapping myself in my knitting-knitted cocoon for the holidays. The past months have been filled with inspiring projects and rewarding achievements. I presented my first installation, Seeing Quintuple, at 4bid Gallery, Euterpians is currently on tour and Ghost Theorem has kicked off with a beautiful residency in Switzerland. Moreover, I had the pleasure of presenting my work to an enthusiastic group at AMMA—Academy for Musicology and Musicianship Amsterdam, an initiative that brings together students from the University of Amsterdam and the Conservatory of Amsterdam. One thrilling piece of news is that I was awarded the Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst Stipendium, which provides six months to develop and consolidate my artistic practice. Under this grant, I was able to spend a month at Elektronmusikstudion Stockholm and start my path on validating artistic pathways with Curious Culture by Linda Thoen. More news on that soon. While in Stockholm, I participated in the plarTbio vernissage, hosted by the Plant Biology department of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. There, I had the opportunity to record both bees and plants at their facilities for a collaboration with scientists from SLU, as well as for an exciting project in development with LOD Muziektheater in Ghent. Finally, if you're in Amsterdam make sure to check out Mergel which will be screening until January 5th at NDSM Fuse. And if you’d like to see me before my cocooning begins, stop by GROND this Saturday at 20:00.I’ll be joining Dominique Chabot and Thora Sveinsdottir for improvised pieces by John Cage and Pauline Oliveros.
Bica à BoavistaNovember gifted us with a shorter period of olive harvest as a result of a low yield year in olive cultivation (due to a phenomenon known as biennial bearing). This means that next year we will most likely have a lot of work in our hands and who knows, we might be needing some extra hands!André found four abandoned kittens while biking around. After much care, attention, and (especially) food, they are now fully recovered and the new lodgers of the firewood house.
EMS Artistic Residency @ Elektromusikstudion Stockholm
While in Stockholm, I had the privilege to spend a month learning how to use the Buchla and Serge modular systems in a rare period where I could indulge in creating music for myself, without a deadline. The environment at the studios was very inspiring, with a constant buzz of people in the hallways and with long breaks taken at their astonishing library.Thank you to AFK and Culture Moves Europe to making this time possible. And thank you to all the extremely helpful team at EMS, with a special thanks to Mats Lindström and Julia Giertz for all the conversations and technical help!
